When we try in multinational company for higher salary, the company wants fluency in English because the company is multinational. So the employees need to go different countries, need to manage different people.

 If the employee knows English language then he is comfortable to manage the situations. Because only English is the International language and English is known all over the world.

 All the instructions are written in English. All the safety rules, privacy policies are written in English. 

So English is required for doing job with high salary in multinational companies.
